LED vs HID: Choosing the Right Headlight Upgrade
When it comes to upgrading your vehicle’s headlights, the choice between LED and HID is a common dilemma. As specialists in automotive lighting, we’re here to guide you through the key differences and help you make an informed decision:
Brightness: Illuminating the Facts
- LED Advantage: LED headlights typically outshine HIDs, producing up to 10,000 lumens compared to HIDs’ 3,400 lumens.
- HID Performance: While not as bright as LEDs, HIDs still offer a significant upgrade from standard halogen bulbs, providing 2,800 to 3,400 lumens compared to halogens’ 900 to 1,000 lumens.
Lifespan and Efficiency
- LED Longevity: LED headlights can last up to 45,000 hours, significantly outlasting HIDs.
- HID Durability: HID bulbs typically last between 2,000 to 3,000 hours, which is still an improvement over traditional halogens.
Color Temperature Options
HIDs offer a wider range of color temperatures to suit different driving conditions:
- 4300K-4500K: Ideal for foggy conditions, providing a warmer, yellowish light
- 5000K-6000K: Crisp white light, similar to daylight
- 8000K-12000K: Cooler, bluish light for a distinct look
- 17000K: Deep Purple
LEDs typically come in a 6000-6500K range, offering a consistent white light that closely resembles natural sunlight.
Installation and Compatibility
- Easy LED Installation: Most LED kits are designed for plug-and-play installation, making them easier for retrofit. LED Kits are also more compact in size being a direct replacement for OEM halogen bulbs
- HID Installation Considerations: HID systems may require additional components like ballasts, which can complicate installation. These additional components also must be secured/stored once installed.
Making Your Choice
Consider your priorities:
- For maximum brightness and longevity, LEDs are the top choice.
- If you want a variety of color options and still significant brightness improvement over halogens, HIDs might be your best bet.
- For urban driving, HIDs provide ample illumination while offering more color choices.
Remember, the best choice depends on your specific vehicle, driving conditions, and personal preferences. Our in-house design and manufacturing ensure high-quality products regardless of your choice, delivering optimal performance for your lighting needs.
Although similar in appearance, do not be mistaken, our HID Bulbs are still significantly brighter and sourced with higher quality materials than most on the market today.
Before releasing we test our products in our San Marcos California Ware as we’re true to our lumen/brightness claims.
HID offers a wider range of color options unlike LED.
